Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad

Take a scenic ride through one of West Virginia's most treasured scenic troves, the Greenbrier Valley. Scenic train rides April-November. Ride the open air gondolas or a 1930s wooden caboose.

Highland Scenic Byway

Part of the Monongahela National Forest, breathtaking panoramas may be seen along this beautiful wilderness drive over WV Rt. 150 from the Cranberry Mountain Visitor Center at Cranberry Glades to north of Edray on WV Rt. 219.

National Radio Astronomy Observatory

Jutting prominently from the landscape, the huge radio telescopes of this observatory appear strangely out of place in the quiet countryside as they listen for signs of life in outer space. When completed in 1998, the Green Bank Telescope will be the largest telescope of its type in the world. Visitors are introduced to radio astronomy through a narrated bus tour. Tours 7 days a week June 15-Labor Day; weekends only in September-October.

WV Central Railroad

Unique Leyland railbus glides 34 miles through mountain wilderness to Big Cut. At 4,066ft, it's cool in summer. Black bear sightings common. Also, special guided wildflower, bird tours. May-late October. Call ahead for tickets.
