RBRVS Reimbursement Changes
Effective October 1, 2001
The Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) and the Bureau for Medical Services (Medicaid) will make a change to their Resource Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS) reimbursement system as of October 1, 2001. This will include services provided on/after October 1, 2001.
The purpose of this change is to make adjustments to the RVUs previously incorporated by the three payers in the July 2001 update and to add the West Virginia adjustment to the malpractice component to the RVUs. Both of these changes are steps toward standardization of the RBRVS system for the state payers. With the changes to the RVUs, conversion factors must also be adjusted.
The new conversion factors (CF) for PEIA and Medicaid are as listed below. For your convenience we have also listed the conversion factors for the Workers’ Compensation Division.
| CF for Anesthesia | CF for All Other Services |
| Medicaid | $26.34 | $27.38 |
| PEIA | $42.25 | $42.25 |
| Workers’ Compensation | $43.38 | $42.00 |
Medicaid and the PEIA are in the process of updating the RBRVS Billing Manual. The Policies and Procedures portion of the manual will be mailed to all providers. The RVUs for each of the CPT codes will be mailed to providers who requested them at the June Provider Workshops in CD format. For PEIA this information is also available on the web site at
www.wvpeia.com. Medicaid will also have the information available at their web site which is
www.wvdhhr.org/bms.
