Dear Governor/Senator/Delegate:

The State of West Virginia should wipe the slate clean and redevelop its plan for high-speed Internet funded by Federal stimulus funds.

This is too important of an opportunity for the state to waste it on a plan that has not been well thought out, and would instead restrict competition and undermine prospects for economic growth. West Virginia needs a true 'middle mile' approach to the development of high speed Internet.

If West Virginia continues down the current path, we lose not only job prospects, but the best and brightest of our next generation. The state’s plan will impair our children's ability to stay in West Virginia because we will lack the high-speed Internet infrastructure needed to compete with other states to attract 21st century jobs.

West Virginia must take its place in a growing digital economy which demands affordable high-capacity broadband solutions for businesses and residential consumers, including a growing trend to virtual home offices.

Please contact the appropriate Federal and State agencies and ask that they review the state's program. The state agency involved is the West Virginia Department of Commerce and the federal agencies are the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board.

Sincerely yours,
